Joseph G. Whitener

Bio

Joseph Whitener is a criminal defense trial lawyer. He began his career with the Missouri State Public Defender's Office, where he handled thousands of criminal cases — from misdemeanors to the most serious and complex felonies — and learned to try cases against experienced prosecutors, often with a client's liberty on the line.

He has successfully tried more than two dozen cases to a jury, consistently obtaining favorable results, including not-guilty verdicts for clients charged with murder, rape, assault, armed criminal action, robbery, and DWI. He is also one of only a few attorneys in Missouri to have successfully represented a client in a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) civil-commitment trial before a jury — among the most difficult cases a defense lawyer can take to verdict.

Today Joseph represents clients in both state and federal criminal matters, at every stage from pre-charge investigation and bond hearings through trial, appeal, and post-conviction relief. He has also represented businesses, governmental entities, and law enforcement agencies in connection with criminal investigations and related civil proceedings.

Joe approaches every case with an unwavering commitment to his client's best interest. His objective is always the same — to obtain the best possible result for the person who has put their trust in him.
